I am of Irish descent but live in AMERICA and I have a neice named Savannah Quin!!!
I think it’s a nice male name. I am glad I found this site to see the history of the name I like finding where a name is from and think that people should respect history. I am from the USA yet I respect other cultures and traditions. I love to learn about names and where things are from. The name Quinn is used in a TV show that I really like and am working on reading and helping with some fan fiction for so I wanted to see the history of where the name is from. The TV show is Sliders it was first on in 1996 and is now on Netflix.
My sons name is Quinn. He is a red headed blue eyed beautiful boy. But you would never guess he is a quarter puerto rican. I love this name for a boy. Not into it for a girl sorry.
I’m a girl… named Quinn. My grandparents are from Ireland and my grandmother asked my dad (when my parents found out I was a girl) to name me Quinn because that was her maiden name. It is very commonly a girl name by non Irishmen and by Irishmen alike. I have met several girls in Ireland named Quinn but I have also met several boys in America named Quinn. If you ask anyone in Northern or the Republic of Ireland they’ll tell you it’s a unisex name. 🙂 And no offence but just so you know it works both ways I think Quinn is a very feminine name and I don’t understand why people like it for boys but if you like it then I’m happy your happy:) x
I agree with you I have no idea why people use the name Quinn for a girl.(again no offense I am sure you love your name) I think that it is annoying that people do that. My son is named Quinn and he has Irish blood in him and is a red head so he is perfect for this name!
Your parents must not be Irish! Nobody with Irish heritage would make that mistake…I live in America- I’ve only met about 4 other Quinn’s in my life and 2 of them were girls…but not of Irish heritage. If they were they would know that Quinn is a boy’s name. To draw an American anology, or put it in terms easier to understan- naming a girl Quinn in Ireland is like naming a girl Peter or John in America. It’s not a girl’s name! No offense.
I’m a girl and my name is Quinn o.o
