They may be made for each other, all right. I don’t know if Irish myths are any richer with poiisbilitses for contemporary authors than other myths are, but Irish crime writers, in this collection especially, take especially good advantage of the myths their native culture offers. The stories in Requiems for the Departed are not all mist and bogs, either. Some are, of course. Others partake of myth in different ways. But the best of them are uncanny enough that they feel like myths themselves. (You should know that the Adrian McKinty who commented above wrote one of the collection’s most chilling stories.)
You have a beautiful name.
My name is Cassia (pronounced Casha) and I have eyes
Saoirse was a name used in the movie Song of the Sea. I suspect it took place in Ireland. It was a beautiful movie about a man who was married to a Selkie, though the son didn’t know that. Then, when Saoirse, the daughter turned five, she would need to return to the sea as a Selkie. The movie is mostly about the growth of the relationship between Saoirse, who couldn’t talk and her brother, who to that point had been pretty mean to her.
I believe that might be part of the reason why Saoirse became such a popular name of late.
My brother kept saying this name over and over yesterday. (It’s because we watched Song of the Sea)
My name is Sersha, because my parents changed the original spelling from Saoirse to Sersha since it’s easier for people to read and understand. I am personally very happy with my name!
I named my daughter Saoirsee. We are Irish, from Bally MacPeake, & also Blackfoot Indian, but I really wanted to honour our Irish heritage. I have blue eyes, BUT they turn a vivid green when I cry, fight, or I am passionate about something. My daughter has a somewhat similar situation with her eyes….sometimes they are blue, other times green, & sometimes turn a stormy gray color. We always get compliments on our eyes because of how they change colours. I also have the grey/silver streak in my hair that ‘legend has it’, belongs to those with the ‘Seventh Sense’….it is yet to be seen if my daughter inherited that trait. She is ony 15 at present, & the streak in my hair didnt show until I was 16, almost 17. Pretty cool though!! 😉
